Ever wanted to send emails from a domain other than your primary domain? Microsoft, the well known software company that gave us Windows, has recently added this capability to their hosted Exchange service provided through Microsoft 365 subscriptions.
Prerequisites
- Obviously we need to be using Microsoft 365 service, with the correct subscription attached to our user.
- We have multiple domains registered in the M365 Admin portal.
- We have added an alias to our user.
Option 1 - Outlook
Outlook is the defacto email client for business and personal users.
It stands to reason that to begin we must have Outlook open to the user in question.
Side note: This tutorial was made using the latest Outlook 365 version available. Your Outlook may look different but the concepts are the same.
STEP 1
Click on “New Email “
STEP 2
Top tabs select “Options”
STEP 3
Click the 3 dots and then “From”
STEP 4
Click the newly visible “From”
Then click “Other Email Address…”
STEP 5
Enter your alias email address and click OK
STEP 6
Now you are ready to send via your alias email.
Fill in the usual details (Who the email is to, Subject, Message) and then click Send.
Option 2 - Outlook Web Access (OWA)
We also have the option of using Outlook Web Access or OWA for short.
Again the principles are the same, but it is a little different in looks and locations.
STEP 1
Open your favourite web browser and navigate to https://outlook.office.com
Click on “New Message”
STEP 2
Click the 3 dots and select “Show from”
STEP 3
Click on the newly visible “From” button
Then click “Other email address…”
STEP 4
Enter your alias email address and press Enter.
Note that with OWA it will try to autofill your alias.
STEP 5
Now you are ready to send via your alias email.
Fill in the usual details (Who the email is to, Subject, Message) and then click Send.
